Day 10 - Paris "Luxembourg? I thought we were in Paris!"

Madeline: Today we took a train to the Luxembourg Gardens.

Charlotte and I rode on a carousel. She was a little scared and very dizzy!

Then we went to the playground. There was an area for babies, and a bigger area for older kids. Charlotte loved the slide and wanted to go down over and over.

We walked to two famous churches, St. Sulpice and St. Germaine des Pres (the oldest church in Paris). We went shopping along the way. Charlote got the cutest little French shoes (2 pairs)! We had to run store to store because it was pouring rain!

My mother insisted on walking another 2 miles to a museum, but it actually turned out to be fun! It was the Orsay Museum. There were tons of really cool paintings by Monet, Degas, Renoir, and other impressionist artists. My favorite painting was "Water Lillies" by Monet.
We took the train to a restaurant across the street from our apartment (Le Grand Bistro). Me and Charlotte LOVED the french onion soup, and the cheese fondue! We dipped everything in the cheese...meat, bread, chicken, little potatoes, and even pickles! For dessert we had chocolate mousse...Yuuummm!

Wow! We get tired just reading about all the walking and sightseeing you're doing! You're sure getting your money's worth! Can't wait to see Charlotte's new shoes. Did she get those cute boots over there too? And, by the way, can you bring us back some chocolate mousse?

You guys must be so glad to sit down and put your feet up at night, or just go to bed! The view from your apt looks so beautiful, even in the photo you took the other day. I think I'd just want to sit and look out the window, but I'm glad you're getting to do so much while you're there! My high school friend Fran wrote me that she went to Europe after HS graduation and thought she'd return many times, and she hasn't made it yet. Enjoy it while you can. Beth, your girls talk like you're taking them in the not too distant future, so be prepared! (Maybe for their gradution present!)

Give Charlotte a big kiss, and eat a little more cheese and chocolate for us! Love, Mom/Grandma xxxxoooo

The pictures and narrative on your blog are wonderful. It seems you're continuing to have a great time.

I thought you might be interested in a little news from home. February has already begun to anticipate Michigan's famously changeable March weather. The single digit freeze we have experienced since you left has finally given way to a thaw of sorts, and we woke up this morning to light raindrops on the windows. The wind blew from the north at forty miles an hour today; branches are laying on top of the snow in the yard. The lake is still frozen with the ice fishing shanties still there, but the streams are now flowing instead of being ice bound. Spring cannot be far away.

Chris is busy with his job with an increased sales quota this year. Amy is still fighting with nausea. They are looking forward to going to southern California next week for Chris's sales conference. The girls and Jack are fine, with his birthday celebration scheduled for March 10.

Lynn is as busy as ever, and her kids are fine, too. The kids are off school on “winter break”, a luxury I never enjoyed as a kid. Tim is working hard and promoting his new Vietnamese catfish line-I'm not making that up. He's also busy with the church fish fry and reffing hockey. Gracie misses Maddie and Charlotte something fierce.

Nickie and I have been fighting cabin fever in the frozen north; we return to Florida for a few weeks in March prior to the beginning of my radiation treatment.

No one has heard from Curt. However, Inspector Clouseau of Interpol, who I have come to understand is familiar with your trip, is apparently quite interested in his whereabouts-something about impersonating a police official. Curt was last seen at his support group meeting for the tiny headed people (a malady he has apparently been struggling with his entire life-so sad); I’ll keep you posted through my Interpol contacts.

Finally, as you conclude your European adventures, I will share some wisdom passed on to me by a friend and accomplished American immigrant from Germany, the late Heinz Prechter. Heaven, he told me, is having a German mechanic, French cook, Italian lover and English nanny. Hell, on the other hand, is a German lover, French mechanic, English cook and Italian nanny. Ladies, as you conclude your adventures, enjoy the cooking but beware the mechanics.

Can’t wait to see you all…….

Love,

Dad/Gramps

Mes belles filles,
What a journey you are having. From all the fromage, chocolat and other delicacies plus the extensive walking, it appears that you have bought the French General Napoleon Bonaparte's famous saying, "An army marches on its stomach!"
Maddie, as you saw yesterday, your Stars classmates got a real kick out of seeing you in the pictures but they wondered why they never hear you speak on Aunt Beth's videos.
BTW the way you guys are going to all those churches, it looks like Auntie Beth is trying to buy lots of indulgences! We hear it is a great French tradition.
You do realize that if you keep on stopping to eat and buy shoes two things will happen:
1. you are going to have empty out some those suitcases and
2. you might excede the weight limit for the plane! LOL

Molly your boys are missing you terribly...all three of them. We took them down to the Ren Cen to that special candy store and they went bananas. Then, somewhere around 10 PM as Dan was driving up to GR, we get this bemused call from him with the boys going nuts behind him. Dan said, "Just how much candy did they eat!?!? They are totally wired!"

I know that you guys are all having a wonderful time but we can't wait to hear all the stories in person. BTW Maddie, I showed the blog to a class of adults that I taught last night and challenged them that if my granddaughter can do this well with a blog, they better get on the ball.

Bon nuit a tout le monde,
Je les aime beaucoup.

Hi All,
Christian, Ben, Grace and I just got done looking through todays blog and any past photos one or another of them may have missed. Christian could hardly believe the human statue in London was real, Ben's favorite of course is the photo of Big Ben and Grace got a huge kick out of Charlotte's new shoes today! The video clips Beth sent yesterday are really cool. We all want some of those little boats to play with at the swim club this summer (fingers crossed for the swim club!). Looks like Maddie was having a great time on the playground and carousel today. I am thoroughly jealous as I adore french onion soup, what is not to love? Great fun that you guys are getting to eat all the local foods! We have noticed the signs are all in French, I am sure everyone is picking up a little bit of the language though.

Hope you are getting a good night sleep as I write this (8:40pm our time)!

Much love to all of you~
Lynn

Beth,
The first two images on Day 9 seem to be broken. Would you check them out and fix them?
