Maddie: This morning me and Aunt Beth went to a coffee shop and I got a grande chocolat (hot chocolate). We went shoe shopping on the way back to our apartment, but I didn't see any shoes that I liked. We got home, then we all had breakfast and we took a train to the Eiffel Tower. It was HUGE!!!
Afterwards, we walked through a big park called Champ de Mars to a street called Rue Cler.
We got dessert at a boulangerie (bakery). It had layers of custard and raspberries. It was really yummy!
When we got home I took a long bath in the deep bathtub. Then I ate some of the stinky cheese and baguette that we bought on Rue Cler. It actually tastes a lot better than it smells!
Molly: The Eiffel Tower was opened in 1889 as a celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the French revolution. It has 3 viewing levels and is 985 feet high! We went to the very top, where on a clear day you can see for 40 miles!
We visited many little specialty shops today including two fromageries (cheese shops), two boulangeries (bakeries), a wine shop, and two little grocery stores. We had a lot of fun on the busy market street of Rue Cler.
Several of you have asked how I am doing with the language. I was very nervous (I haven't taken a French class in 14 or so years, and it was almost 16 years ago that I was here!) It's actually going fine. I didn't have time to brush up before our trip, but I'm amazed that it is coming back to me. I'm making transactions at the shops, ordering from restaurants, buying tickets, getting directions, figuring out the Metro & RER trains, and basically getting us by. I remembered more and more over the course of the day. Maddie & Beth are cheering me on! We have not found the Parisians to be overly rude. In fact, as long as we are buying things, they're downright pleasant!
We LOVE Paris! It is such a busy, cool city. There are little parks in the midst of the buildings, and people are there juggling, on skate boards, etc. There's no end to the entertainment. The streets are small and curvy, and the buildings are so charming. We just love it here!
P.S. Keep the "comments" coming. We read them every night and laugh & laugh. It reminds us what great family & friends we have.
Aunt Beth says: Hello! I'm too stuffed with wine, cheese & bread to give further comment, but Bon Soir!

Hi Ladies,
My email has been down for 5 days, sorry I couldn't post to you! I understand you also sent some emails, which I didn't get either-urgh!
Anyway, I have been reading the blog and catching up on all your news each day. The photos are awesome. You guys are all so photogenic-amazingly beautiful!
Sounds like you are having a blast! I got the postcard with the fab da Vinci painting on it in the mail today, very fun!
The boys were here yesterday and we all went sledding. Ben played soccer with Jake and his team last night and he had a blast getting to play with his cousin!
We miss you guys!
Much love to you all~
Lynn & crew
Bon jour! It will be Wed. morning when you read this. Carson's comment on you, Molly, saying you are stuffed with the things you ate and drank was a very unsurprised "She's getting fat." He should talk! He got a huge bag of assorted candy at the BonBon shop at the Ren Cen today (much bigger than Jake's who was concerned with our budget of course), and we had paczkis this morning! Today is "Fat Tuesday" here after all!
We are so glad that your French is working for you once again, Molly. That was one of the prayer requests I sent out before you left.
We are wondering if Charlotte has learned any new words and the boys wonder if they are French!
We loved the pictures, of course, especially the one of Molly & Beth, and the one of Char and Maddie in matching outfits! You guys are all just too cute for words!
How cool that you are sleeping in a loft, Maddie. You looked very happy up there!
Have another fun day! Love, Mom/Grandma
Well, it's 9:30 PM and we just said goodbye to your wonderful boys, Jake and Carson. They are such a pleasure to have around. Jake is just so polite and considerate; I hope he never loses that! Carson is just so...Carson, there's just no one like him. They certainly brightened our day up immeasurably. We will pray that Dan stays awake for the long trip to his parents' house in Delton; he should arrive around 1 AM!
You rascals look like you are having more fun than a barrel full of monkeys! Beth, you are an astounding photographer; we have all been admiring your shots of the girls. But then you have such lovely subjects to shoot!!!
Molly I am so delighted to hear that the French is coming back and that you are enjoying using it. I hope that it will serve as an incentive to Maddie Ann to learn another language.
As for you Miss Pigtails, you must be bursting with stories about the wonderful things you have seen and the people that you have met. You know that we will want to keep you talking for at least two days when you return.
Bon soir et bonnes reves...have another wonderful day in gay Paree tomorrow and we will enjoy the scenery through your sparkling eyes.
Love,
Grandpa Foster
It's great that you are having such a good time and are doing so well with your French, Molly! As with anything else, just be overly confident, act like you know exactly what you are doing, and the rest will follow!
We are SO enjoying your daily posts. Cameron is jealous about everything, of course. Wagamama and fish and chips, especially!
Kit was wondering if the Eiffel Tower is fun. His fav joke is about how the tower was named. Apparently, there was a guy working at the top when it was being built and he lost his grip and fell off. His co-workers ran to him and asked what had happened.
His answer, of course, was "I fell." hee hee
Keep having a great time!
