Day 3 - Windsor Castle & Sound of Music

Maddie: Today we spent the whole day at Windsor Castle! This morning we were so tired and we ended up missing breakfast downstairs, so we ate cereal & milk on the train to Windsor.
Windsor is a really cool town with little narrow streets filled with shops. It was really cold today, I was freezing so Aunt Beth and I ran around the streets of Windsor until we found a Marks & Spencer and bought me tights. Then we went to Windsor Castle and watched the changing of the guards, which was really cool with a band (they even played the Beatles song "Ruby Tuesday")!

Charlotte made friends with a bunch of little kids watching the band. Then she came over and said "That bad baby pinched my finger!" It was the boy in the white if you are interested!

Aunt Beth had hired a private tour guide to meet us at the castle and take us all around, her name was Amanda. She was super nice, and told us about everything and answered our millions of questions. Windsor Castle is the largest castle in the world! It is the home of the Queen (she said Buckingham Palace is more like her office). We walked all around the outside...oh my gosh, it's so beautiful with the greenest grass, and rose bushes, and miles and miles of park (where the Queen rides her horses and they hunt).

We went into one part of the castle and saw Queen Mary's dollhouse. It is a huge castle dollhouse with rooms for the King, Queen and a princess. Everything is perfect and everything is real! It has real plumbing with running water, and it has electricity too! It has a huge library room full of tiny real books that were written by real authors, and paintings all painted by famous painters from that time! It is the biggest dollhouse in the world. I wish I could live in it!!!!!!

We also went in St. George's chapel, an old church where there are lots of kings & queens buried there. The queens parents are both buried there, and her sister Princess Margaret. Mom was saying how there were actually people buried under the floor and Charlotte started yelling "I want the dead people to come out! I want to see them!" She kept going on and on about it. We were all trying not to laugh but it was sooooo funny.

We went in the state rooms of the castle with all the beautiful rooms full of fancy furniture where the Queen entertains special people. The castle was built by William the Conquerer over 1000 years ago!!!

We went into the town of Windsor with Amanda (she showed us Queen Charlotte street), and then we all went out to dinner with her. We asked her a bunch of questions and she told us all about different accents in different parts of England (like the north pronounces A "ay" and the south "ah"). She also told us a bunch of funny terms that are different from ours (like they call a purse a handbag, and a wallet a purse). We had such a fun day with her. Then we took the train back to London.

We were all so tired, but we still found the strength to go to the musical "Sound of Music"!!! It was so awesome! The lady that played Maria was really good, and the kids were too. I loved the littlest girl Greta the best. We got a bunch of snacks before the show, and then we got ice cream during intermission. Yummmmmmm!

Thanks for coming with us to Windsor!

For some reason all of the kids (our family)look european in the photos. You all have taken on a rather cosmopolotin-and rather snobby if I may be so bold- appearance. You'll all come home with those pompus english accents and you'll HATE America!
Have fun, I love you all,
Amy
